Kate Bush and Missy Elliott inducted into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
Missy Elliott has become the first female rapper to be inducted, while Kate Bush says she’s “completely shocked” at her own inclusion
Kate Bush has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame after three previous nominations.
The artist has reacted to the news by sharing a statement on her official website which reads: “I have to admit I'm completely shocked at the news of being inducted into the Hall of Fame!”
It continues: “Thank you so much to everyone who voted for me. It means a great deal that you would think of me. It’s such a huge honour.

Bush concludes: “Now as part of the initiation ceremony I get to find out about the secret handshake... there is one, right?”
Missy Elliott has also been selected to join the Hall of Fame making her the first-ever female rapper inducted.
On Twitter she wrote: "It’s such a honor to be inducted in @rockhall of fame & this accolade is NOT easy to receive".
Rage Against the Machine, Chaka Khan, Sheryl Crow, George Michael, Willie Nelson, and The Spinners have also joined the class of 2023.
Last year, Kate Bush broke three world records with her 1985 track 'Running Up That Hill' as it reached number one on the UK chart and made its debut on the top 10 list in the US charts - 37 years after its release.
'Running Up That Hill' regained significant popularity in 2022 after it was featured in the Netflix show Stranger Things.

Alongside topping the UK charts, 'Running Up That Hill' was the most streamed song in June on Spotify in the UK and the US.
The official music video for the song has now reached 187 million views on YouTube.
The official Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place on November 3 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
