Honey Dijon awarded in NYC for pioneering work in the LGBTQIA+ community
The DJ and producer was honoured last week at Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art Gala
Honey Dijon has received a lifetime achievement award titled The Queer Visionary Award for being an “artistic pioneer” in the LGBTQIA+ community.
The ceremony that took place at Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art Gala in New York on Monday night saw the Chicago-born artist receive the specially created award by visual artist Jonathan Lyndon Chase.
According to the press release, she embodies "Leslie-Lohman's guiding values of queer liberation and magic."

Via a post on Instagram Dijon wrote: “I am filled with so much love and joy today.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this honor and to be surrounded by so many friends, pioneers, and legends of New York that came out to support was truly deeply emotional and humbling for me.”
She ends her statement with the line: “I felt like the most beautiful and powerful woman on earth.”
A special honour was also given to Jamaican-American artist, curator and art historian Margaret Rose Vendryes, who died earlier this year.

Those from the dance music scene who attended the ceremony included Kevin Aviance, Louie Vega, Midland and more.
The Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art celebrates artists and names related to the LGBTQIA+ community by collecting and preserving around 30,000 artefacts and was founded by J. Frederic Lohman and Charles W. Leslie.

This week, Dijon’s forthcoming sophomore album, ‘Black Girl Magic’, will be released via Defected Records.
The album will feature more than 15 vocalists, producers, and songwriters, from Channel Tres to Josh Caffé, and span a multitude of genres.
‘Black Girl Magic’ is due for release on November 18.
