Dave Grohl responds to ‘Nevermind’ baby's $150k sexual exploitation lawsuit
“Listen, he’s got a Nevermind tattoo. I don’t.”
Dave Grohl has spoken publicly about the lawsuit being levelled against Nirvana for alleged “child pornography” and sexual exploitation by Spencer Elden, who appeared as a baby on front of the band’s 1991 album ‘Nevermind’.
When asked for comment by Vulture, Grohl said: “I don’t know that I can speak on it because I haven’t spent too much time thinking about it. I feel the same way most people do in that I have to disagree. That’s all I’ll say.”
The interviewer also pointed out that the now 30-years-old Elden has recreated the image throughout his life, to which the Foo Fighters frontman responded: “Listen, he’s got a Nevermind tattoo. I don’t.”

News of the lawsuit broke in August, with Elden alleging his parents did not sign a release authorising use of the image, which depicts Elden at four months old, reaching for a dollar bill on a fishing line whilst swimming nude in a pool.
He has also alleged that the nude image constitutes child pornography, seeking damages of $150,000 from 15 parties, both the current living members of Nirvana, as well as Kurt Cobain’s widow Courtney Love and photographer Kirk Weddle.
The Foo Fighters frontman also went on the record about the lawsuit to The Sunday Times earlier this month, calling legal issues such as this “par for the course” and indicating the iconic artwork might be changed in response: “I have many ideas of how we should alter that cover, but we’ll see what happens,” he said.
