Aphex Twin alludes to Field Day 2023 appearance with cryptic website

The enigmatic artist has played at the London festival previously

Legendary producer Aphex Twin (real name Richard D. James) has hinted that he will be appearing at the 2023 edition of London’s Field Day festival via a mysterious website.

A webpage with the domain 190823.co.uk appeared yesterday (January 19), which corresponds with the date of the festival (August 19, 2023) at East London’s Victoria Park, Resident Advisor reports.

In typical Aphex Twin fashion, there is little information on the site, with “LONDON” splashed across the middle of the page, and his distinctive logo filling the two O’s in the word.

It also contains a space to enter your email address to keep updated, and a small-printed privacy policy notice in the bottom left hand corner of the page reads: “I would like he Waxarch Limited as the promoter of this teaser to send me information by email about this teaser and upcoming news.”

Waxarch Limited is the parent company of Field Day and All Points East – another Victoria Park festival.

Aphex Twin has played at the festival before, with a headline audiovisual show in 2017. Read Mixmag’s review of the performance here.

At the time, he also released an album using his AFX pseudonym, simply titled ‘London 03.06.17’ on the day that he last played the festival in 2017. Limited numbers were sold at the festival, and they rapidly hit huge prices on vinyl marketplace Discogs.

His most recent performance came nearly four years ago, when he played a headline show at Printworks.

Aphex Twin is no stranger to creative marketing ploys. In November 2020, his logo began appearing across billboards around the world – hinting at what would be a collaborative AFX Station synth with music tech company Novation.
