Aphex Twin reveals upcoming EP 'Blackbox Life Recorder 21f' on Warp Records

AFX teased the EP earlier today by uploading its opening track to his SoundCloud account

Electronica pioneer, Aphex Twin, has just shared the first track from his new EP, marking his first release in five years.

The opening track, 'Blackbox Life Recorder 21f' has just been released on all major streaming platforms, after it was originally uploaded to AFX's Soundcloud account earlier today (Wednesday June 21) but was promptly deleted.

The official release date set for the EP has been confirmed to be June 28, 2023 and will drop on the artist's longtime label affiliate Warp Records.

Prior to this, a new augmented reality app prompted fans to speculate that the UK artist will be releasing his next EP on Warp Records sometime this summer. The app, “YXBoZXh0d2lu”, linked to Aphex Twin, began emerging via QR codes from recent performances and posters internationally.

The app's description, “WAPP480”, matches recent catalog numbers from Warp Records. Fans speculate the first half was purposely misspelt as a pun on the word “app”.

All these hints led Reddit users to speculate a new release on the label is on its way. Their speculations have been confirmed.

The EP will be the artists first since 'Collapse', in 2018.
