Drums Radio to host 'mini' African electronic music festival in London

Drums Radio will be putting on an all-day "'mini-festival" in Brixton to celebrate the sounds of the African underground.

Titled "Sounds of African Electronic Music", the festival will be taking place on Saturday March 26 and will be playing afro house, deep house, amapiano, gqom, and "everything in between".

The event will be headlined by DJ Manoo and will be showcasing the sounds of African underground, bridging the gap between African-pioneered sounds and the European club scene.

Mr Silk, DJ and founder of Drums Radio, says: “This is a momentous event for African Electronic music and one that will make history… for a scene that is typically overlooked and undervalued.

“We aim to use this event as a platform to highlight and showcase the pioneers and innovators of the sound in the UK”.

Speaking to Mixmag, he added: "The opportunity of shining a light on Afrohouse, Amapiano, Gqom, deep South-African house and others with an event dedicated to African Electronic Music is a much needed opportunity to allow the acknowledgement of the unrepresented music scenes which are sometimes heavily borrowed from, by other genres without any admission or indication of the origin of music."

As well as DJ Manoo, expect to see DJ IC, Logic Senya, Charisse C, Emerzy Corbin, and many more.

This festival will be taking place at Brixton's Prince of Wales pub and live music venue, and will start as a day party before turning into a club night after dark.
