adidas SPEZIAL's latest collection inspired by the styling of Northern England
Gary Aspden revisits his roots for a footwear and apparel collection inspired by the North West
Following their successful SS19 release, adidas SPEZIAL is back for AW19, this time citing the North West of England as the inspiration behind the collection.
Almost five years on from their debut release, Gary Aspden - the main man behind SPEZIAL - returns to his Blackburn roots to bring us a taste of his youth. A collection designed to combat winter on the terraces, the latest release blends adidas’ rich heritage in sportswear with modern technology, tooling, and fabrics.

This collection features the first appearance of the Blackburn SPZL, a silhouette inspired and named after the Lancashire town in which Gary spent much of his youth and host to the latest Spezial archive footwear exhibition.
An earthy toned Belthorn anorak and the Rossendale parka (a modern update on the classic fishtail parka) melds durability and style, while the Spezial Liner vest fits seamlessly into the former anorak as a water-resistant liner.

The footwear for this season features the SL80 SPZL, a one to one reproduction of the SL80 in its classic navy/gold colourway, an update of the winter-ready adidas Winterhill SPZL in adi-tex, and a premium leather Hoddlesden SPZL. The footwear offering is topped off by the release of the Blackburn SPZL, a shoe named after, and inspired by, the Lancashire town in which Gary spent his youth.
The look book below is shot by Manchester’s Paul Husband and features Gene Gallagher (son of Liam) who’s a dedicated fan of SPEZIAL.
The collection releases on October 11th and will be available from adidas.co.uk/spezial, as well as the likes of Oi Polloi, END. Clothing and The Hip Store.
