A list of ways to aid those affected by the Venezuelan earthquake
Find out how you can help the humanitarian crisis in Venezuela as a result of the devastating earthquakes across the country on June 24
On Wednesday, June 24, two devastating earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale respectively hit Northern Venezuela, leaving at least 2,295 people dead and an estimated 11,000 injured.
The epicentre of both earthquakes was located in Yaracuy, with significant damage to buildings and loss of life reported in the populated areas of Trujillo, Carabobo, Aragua, Miranda, La Guaira, and the capital, Caracas.
Venezuelan and international rescue teams continue to search for survivors among the rubble, though authorities have warned that the death toll will continue to rise over the coming days. Thousands of displaced survivors have been left without clean water, and many have been forced to take refuge in crammed shelters.
The U.N. humanitarian agency spokesperson for Latin America and the Caribbean told Euro News that extensive damage to infrastructure may also lead to an increase in disease in the hardest-hit communities: "Waste management is an issue. Debris management, when you see the scale of devastation, it’s very concerning."
