Unsound announces first artists for 2016 Krakow edition
The Polish festival has also revealed details of its Dislocation projects
Last month Unsound announced ‘Dislocation’ as the overarching theme for its string of events through 2016 and 2017, aiming to explore the “collapsed relationship between periphery and centre, the shifting idea of borders, and the specificity of place.”
Now it’s revealed how this theme will be realised at the Krakow edition of the festival that takes place across October 16 to 23 in the city’s unique venues such as a former tram hall, a salt mine, and a synagogue.
A number of projects are taking place that connect to locations Unsound will host events in during 2016 and 2017 such as Central Asia, the Caucasus and remote regions of Russia.
Moritz Von Oswald is joining forces with Kyrgyzstan-based band Ordo Sakhna; Poland’s Stara Rzeka will play alongside tradional Tajikistani band Samo; and more Disclocation collaborations will be announced soon.
Further performances include: PC Music artist Felicita choreographing a work with traditional Polish dancers; Matmos aligning with Krakow’s Sinfonietta Cracovia string quartet for an ensemble performance of Robert Ashley’s Perfect Lives opera; JD Twitch playing a DJ set of Muslimgauze music; and Forest Swords premiering material from his forthcoming record.
Elsewhere across the line-up there’s appearances from Roly Porter, Raime, Gaika, Babyfather, Ancient Methods and Cindytalk premiering their new In The Mouth Of The Wolf live show, Veronica Vasicka (pictured), Edward, Konstantin, Orphx, Severed Heads and many more acts spanning gqom club music from Durban to footwork from Japan.
Week passes sold out in record time yesterday, but tickets for the individual events will be on sale later this year. Head to Unsound’s website for further details.
