Scooter kick Madonna off top of charts

ScooterGerman hardcore outfit, Scooter, have kicked Madonna off the top of the album chart with their release 'Jumping All over the World'.

Believe it or not, 'Jumping...' is actually Scooter's 13th studio album.

If you're a fan of this high-adrenaline 'techno' racket you might also enjoy Scooter's (tongue in cheek) tribute act, Moped.

Their rework of John Lennon's 'Imagine' is certainly an eye opener.

Win a new Nokia with the help of DJ Shadow

DJ Shadow
Legendary producer, DJ Shadow is an International Mentor for Nokia Trends Lab – a concept that mixes mobile technology with creative arts experimentalism.

As part of Shadow’s lab experiment he is collecting samples of cities to turn into a track – and you can join in.

It could be the thumps of base coming from your favourite club or the woo-woos coming from a passing meat-wagon – whatever the noises are – upload them at Nokia's site and the winning city noises will be made into a track by Shadow that will be exclusively available on the site and the mobile site (www.nokia.mobi/trendslab).

But what do you get for your troubles? If your sounds are used you’ll pick up a Nokia Recording Kit including a Nokia 5310 and limited edition DJ Shadow Wallpaper pack.

He also want to hear what you can do with the sounds you record by uploading your own mix. DJ Shadow will pick his favourite and the winner will receive a VIP trip to a Nokia Trends Lab event in Europe. The deadline for entries has been extended to 19th May 2008.

Richie Hawtin is "guardian of the Cube"

Richie HawtinLiving techno legend and self-proclaimed "guardian of the Cube" ("Cube" pictured left), Richie Hawtin, has released the following statement, regarding his new world tour – Contakt – and the "mysterious" Cube at the centre of the concept:

"What is apparent is that the Cube is a highly advanced communications device that responds positively to the presence of humans and interacts accordingly. By acting as a central hub it seems to allow us to direct our thoughts, collect and share ideas, transcend language and interconnect musically in ways previously not possible. We're still in the early stages of research but it seems our destinies have somehow become interlinked."

Is it an exciting new musical concept? A fancy Minus-branded WiFi base station? Or is Richie Hawtin about to lead techno back up its own arse?
