The market for expensive cans has grown rapidly in the past few years, with the likes of Beats, Bose and Bowers & Wilkins attracting punters to part with hefty sums of cash, rather than just the gear geeks they banked on before.

But coming in at £1,699, Pioneer's SE Master 1s are likely to make even the most dedicated audio-philes think twice before getting out their credit cards. So what do you get for all that dosh? As you'd expect, everything is made to the very highest standard.

Five years of intensive R&D went into developing the SE-Master 1s and every pair has been hand-crafted by a single certified craftsman in Japan. They boast 50mm drivers, 94dB sensitivity and can reproduce high-res audio of up to 85,000 Hz, more than double the minimum requirement for high-res headphones.

All that and they come in a rigid, low resonance structure, making sure no unwanted vibrations interfere with your music. Maybe it's time you sold your car after all...

Priced at £1,699 you can grab these headphones here
