Lee Bannon
A gleam from his forthcoming album, 'Pattern of Excel'
It's impossible to pin Lee Bannon to a single genre.
Is it hip hop? Jungle and drone? Beatless ambience? To be fair, he's dabbled in all of them, from working with New York rapper Joey Bada$$ to raucous 2013 album 'Alternate/Endings' and this year's stunning 'Pattern Of Excel', out via Ninja Tune on July 10.
It doesn't really matter what he makes, though. Why? Because the Sacramento producer wows us more or less every time (check 'Disneµ Girls' and '216' to see what we mean about his range of work).
Where the majority of 'Pattern Of Excel' is plied with dread and angst, 'Memory 6' provides that sparkling glimmer of beauty, albeit crackling all the way through, as if to reassure you there's light at the end of every dark and dreary journey.
