Fyre Festival offers VIP passes to next year's edition in lieu of refunds
Not sure how many will be willing to make the switch though
Last week, Fyre Festival singlehandedly became the biggest music festival in every headline, but for all the wrong reasons. The idyllic island festival, which ran attendees anywhere from $1K to $125K for tickets and packages, ended up being the equivalent of a festival disaster zone with bare minimum lodging and cheese sandwiches instead of luxury catering.
Co-founder of the event Billy MacFarland issued a flimsy apology that attempted to blame the event's shortcomings on unexpected weather and promised to make it up to attendees with a 2018 event.
Despite being hit with a $100 million class action lawsuit, the festival seems determined and committed to finally keeping their promises, proven with their latest antics in a questionnaire that was sent to 2017 ticket holders by offering folks double the amount of VIP passes to next year's festival in lieu of refunds.
"As you likely know, we've been through the ringer on social media and this has been a challenging week for us as we were unable to realize our dream on the first try," the Fyre Festival page reads. "We are now one of the world's most famous festivals for all the wrong reasons. We want to reverse that sentiment by producing something amazing. We are fully committed to this event next year, and to producing it in the most professional way, with experienced professionals. We have received the support and commitments from several musicians to perform at next year's event."
Of course, there are no further details on the alleged acts that have confirmed to play for Fyre Festival 2.0 but with the event organizer's track record, we wouldn't recommend holding your breath.
