How’d you go about learning?

To this day people still ask me if I’ve had any classical training, and the answer is no. I just sat on YouTube all day, didn’t go outside. I was avoiding some serious shit outside! I’d rather be indoors all day teaching myself Mozart than being in a gang.

You now live in LA. What inspired you to move here?

I dropped out of high school when I was 15 or 16. School wasn’t for me and I couldn’t focus. I had no grades and couldn’t get into any colleges, and after that, I sort of lost all my friends. I started making friends on the internet when I first started posting stuff and was like, “Damn, most of these people live in America. In Los Angeles.”

I realized then that I had one chance to do the music thing and I couldn’t wait because the opportunity would pass me up. I visited New York first and met some friends and it convinced me. I connected with them instantly and it was better than I could’ve imagined.

I was depressed and anxious in England, I wasn’t happy at all. The first time I experienced true happiness was when I came to New York and met my friends. So I was just like, “yeah, let’s move to America!” Totally underestimated moving to America at 17 though. Oh boy, it’s been an experience.
