Women of Music India announces its launch

The foundation is set to foster more inclusivity, empowerment and growth of women in the industry

Women of Music India announces its launch

The Women of Music India has launched and opened its doors for membership.

With a women-led community that intends to make the Indian music industry more accessible to women across the globe and amplify voices of women from its ecosystem, WOMI spans genres sonically whilst also catering to the music workforce including artist managers, labelheads, photographers, stylists, journalists and more.

Membership is free to all who identify as a women, with the platform's first campaign garnering support from members including artists Jonita Gandhi, Jasleen Royal, Kamakshi Khanna, Universal Music Group's Preeti Nayyar, Sony Music India's Ankita Maheshwari, and Believe's Shreya Khaladkar.

Industry heads have pledged to support members of WOMI by giving them access to a varied community of professionals, early access to opportunities, job listings, mentorship programmes, workshops and countrywide networking events.

"We’re pooling in our resources, ideas and experience to allow more women to obtain the skills required to join the industry," explains Nayyar, with co-founder of Bluprint Sweta Ojha adding that the initiative "gives us the chance to build a community that can support each other and get more women a seat at the table across all areas of the music business”.
