Finnish women are rallying together behind prime minister, Sanna Marin, after she came under fire for partying in Finland last weekend.

Hundreds of videos have been posted across social media supporting Marin, who was spotted out partying with friends and in videos drinking and dancing.

Videos of Finnish women dancing alongside the hashtag #SolidarityWithSanna have popped up across TikTok and Instagram in support of the PM.

Sanna Marin, 36, became the youngest prime minister in the world at just 34 when she was first elected to succeed former PM Antti Rinne. She was recently dubbed “the world’s coolest prime minister” by Germany’s Bild.

After the PM was spotted drinking at a private VIP bar last weekend where she danced with a popular Finnish star, Marin faced backlash and was accused of taking drugs, which she has since denied.

Marin took a drug test to alleviate claims of illegal drug use which has now come back negative. “I hope that in the year 2022 it’s accepted that even decision-makers dance, sing and go to parties,” Marin said in an interview following accusations.

She told the press that she has never taken drugs, not even in her “teenage years”, but took the test “for my own legal protection and to clear up any doubts”.

“What could have been done was to take care that such things would not be leaked,” she added, saying that the videos were taken for herself and her friends, not the public eye.

“I didn’t have any work meetings planned for that weekend, they are confirmed usually beforehand and I didn’t have any meetings for example Saturday or Sunday,” she said.
