A new podcast series scoping the history of some of the world’s greatest nightclubs has landed on Apple Podcasts from iHeart Radio, hosted by Ultra Naté.

The 12-part series, titled The History of the World’s Greatest Nightclubs, is set to look at iconic clubs all over the globe and how each “revolutionised the way we party”, per the podcast’s description.

The show, which lists Paris Hilton as an executive producer, aired its first episode on Thursday, July 13, looking at how Detroit’s Music Institute became the birthplace of techno.

“This is the story of how a Black-owned club in downtown Detroit became central to the birth of Techno,” reads the episode’s synopsis. “The Music Institute was only open for 18 months, but in its short lifetime, it championed the birth of Techno music and became home to some of the most influential DJs and producers of its time.”

The second 45-minute episode landed on the same day with reference to Danceteria, one of New York’s most notable clubs in the early ‘80s where Madonna once performed, and Keith Haring would paint directly onto the club’s walls.

Ultra Naté also discusses Danceteria amidst the AIDS crisis, and how the club became a community for New Yorkers looking to lose themselves on the dancefloor.

Episodes of The History of the World’s Greatest Nightclubs are set to land weekly on Apple Podcasts exploring the birth of new genres at revered nightclubs, and how each influenced one another and the communities they formed.

“Nightclubs do change the way we see the world,” the description reads. “Because the pure joy of a good party has the unique ability to transcend language, culture and place. To reach people from different parts of the world and unite them through the magical, unshakable, desire to… dance.”
