Donald Trump advises Americans to avoid gatherings of more than 10 people

The White House task force made the announcement during a press conference today

Donald Trump advises Americans to avoid gatherings of more than 10 people

As the world tackles the coronavirus virus outbreak and aims to prevent it spreading, Donald Trump has announced the next steps for US contingency.

In a press conference alongside his White House task force, the President of the United States released a new set of guidelines that will apply to the next 15 days.

Of the announcements made, the main talking point is that Trump has advised Americans to avoid gatherings of more than 10 people.

The White House coronavirus response coordinator, Dr. Deborah Birx, reached out to millennials as the age demographic who can make the biggest change in fighting the spread of the virus.

"They [Millennials] are the group that communicates successfully, independent of picking up a phone. They intuitively know how to contact each other without being in large social gatherings. We're asking all of them to hold their gatherings to under 10 people." said Birx.

Similarly to Boris Johnson's recent press conference where he 'strongly advised' against people going to clubs and pubs, Trump has recommended that people work from home when possible and avoid traveling to bars and public spaces.

Trump added "It's important for the young and healthy people to understand that while they may experience milder symptoms, they can easily spread this virus and they will spread it indeed, putting countless others in harms way."

This follows on from New York City closing all venues, clubs, event spaces and restaurants as of 9am on March 17.
