Primavera Sound to hold new festival in Peru

Primavera Sound festival will be heading to the South American Pacific coast this November, with a new edition of its festival in Lima, Peru.

The latest addition of the festival joins cities including Barcelona, Buenos Aires, São Paulo and Bogotá; kicking off on November 2, the festival will also take place on December 2, 7 and 8.

The Cure will headline the opening date, followed by Bad Gyal on the 2nd, Pet Shop Boys on the 7th and Bad Religion on the 8th.

In an Instagram post announcing the headline acts, the festival’s translated caption read “All roads lead us to Primavera Sound and this time it was Peru! Enjoy the Road to Spring with unforgettable concerts. More ticket sale info coming soon.”

This year marked the first time the festival was held as a dual-site event. On top of being held at its usual Barcelona location, the same lineup was welcomed to Spain’s capital city of Madrid at the ‘City of Rock’ in Arganda del Rey and other locations across the city. Headliners for this year’s edition included Kendrick Lamar, Depeche Mode, Calvin Harris and Rosalía, to name a few.

However, the inaugural Madrid edition came with a fair amount of setbacks - organisers had to cancel its first day, where Blur and Halsey were expected to headline.

They attributed this to “the persistent severe weather experienced in recent weeks that have affected the pre-production of the festival”. The organisers decided that Primavera’s 2024 edition will not be making a return to Madrid, citing difficulties with the pre-production process and noting that they are ‘not oblivious to the annoyances,” this year’s edition sparked.

The festival’s official site reads that “ The first experience of Primavera Sound in the Andean country will not be a festival but a series of concerts in Lima”

These concerts are set to “impact of the four line ups around which the second editions in Buenos Aires (25th and 26th November) and São Paulo (2nd and 3rd December), the Primavera Day in Asunción (7th December) and the debut in Bogotá (9th and 10th December) will revolve.”
