Ibiza nightclub Eden has been forced to cancel its Space residency, launches new party NOSPACE

Eden Ibiza has been forced to pull its Space residency, launching a new Friday party in its place called NOSPACE, following a legal dispute about the rights to the Space trademark.

Last month, Space Ibiza founder Pepe Roselló had his rights to the brand name annulled in a decision by the Valencia commercial court, which ruled in favour of the Matutes family, owners of Fiesta Hotels & Resorts SL, in the legal claim to the brand.

As reported by Diario de Ibiza, “the judge upholds the claim filed by Fiesta Hotels and annuls the registration of the trademark 'Space Ibiza' that Roselló made in 2008”.

With the Matutues family being the official owners of the brand name, Eden has now changed its “historic” 24-week residency title to the play-on-words NOSPACE paired with a new logo which no longer resembles the Space Ibiza imagery.

The original residency had been created in partnership between the club and Roselló who shared in an announcement at the time of the series launch: "Welcome back to Space Ibiza. Welcome home!"

The owner of Eden Ibiza has shared today (August 6) in a press release: “Due to the ongoing battle to keep our Friday night presence in San Antonio, we believe it is crucial to launch NOSPACE to protect this vital part of the Ibiza clubbing scene.

“Fridays at Eden are more than just a night out; they are a tradition that defines the Ibiza experience for many and a home to a global community of clubbers.”

The court’s decision marks the latest ruling in what has been a lengthy case, which began over the management of Space Ibiza nightclub building - now Hï Ibiza - which was rented by Roselló from the Matutes family.

Diario de Ibiza also reports that it was heard in court: "Considering that there is a confusion ‘of a nominative and graphic nature’ with the logo and the trademark 'Space Ibiza Dance', registered in 1991 and whose owner is Fiesta Hotels.”

Not only has Eden been forced to make this change but the decision also affects other associated brands with Space Ibiza, including: 'Space Dance Barcelona', 'Space Dance Madrid', 'Space Beach Club’ and 'Space Ibz Planet’.

NOSPACE will run every Friday from August 9 to October 4 with the slogan: “Embrace the Night, NOSPACE for Sleep”.
