Snapped: Movement Detroit 2017

If it wasn't obvious, Mixmag loves Detroit's Movement Festival. We geared up for the annual celebration with our favorite things about the event and in short, it blew past expectations once again.

The three-day gathering, known as a purist techno wonderland, brought every name from Nicole Moudaber and Carl Cox to Larry Heard and Honey Dijon. A truly remarkable weekend full of energy, dancing and top-tier music still buzzing through our heads.

The first day had the entire city bustling with vibrance under a red hot sun. Main attractions included Leon Vynehall, Robert Hood, Function and The Belleville Three. Movement flag-bearer Richie Hawtin gave the main stage finale with his new CLOSE showcase, while Adam X and Perc brought their AX&P project with the most absurdly mayhem-filled set of the weekend.

Day two had some of the biggest buzz with Seth Troxler, DVS1 and Joseph Capriati. Movement had no problem dancing in the pouring rain for Matthew Dear's twisting Audion performance and crowds welled into the thousands for Dixon and deadmau5's testpilot closing slots. Although weather got the best of Joel Zimmerman's highly anticipated set, the producer made good on his promise to post the full arrangement later in the week on BBC Radio 1.

As the third day brought the city in for one last round, behemoths Carl Cox and Chris Liebing both flexed on the final sets of the festival plus Jamie Jones going for a full extra 45 minutes on his Paradise stage. Mixmag's personal highlight was seeing Kevin Saunderson front row in the crowd for Carl Craig's Detroit debut of his breathtaking Versus Synthesizer Orchestra.
