Sheffield’s Gut Level launches fundraiser for planned new DIY venue

Sheffield-based collective and music venue Gut Level has launched a fundraiser to help with the opening of a brand-new space in the city.

With a focus on community, Gut Level’s next venture hopes to create space for queer people, women, and gender minorities in Sheffield.

The planned space is set to feature a live music venue and bar with a 2:AM licence, community garden, accessible community & creative space, and a roof terrace, and will allow anyone to access it once signed up for a membership.

“Gut Level is a not-for-profit members club for the queers, angels, and part freaks of Sheffield,” the collective announced on Instagram over the weekend.

Gut Level is now fundraising for renovations and start-up costs, aiming to reach £50,000 to start up the space, pay its staff, and create a diverse programme of social and creative events.

“The space and events will be inclusive to all, but our focus is on the experience of queer people, women, and gender minorities,” they said. “A lot of people are feeling the effect of rising costs right now and we understand this is a lot of money to raise.”

“There are lots of different ways to support and we're extremely grateful for any amount of time or money people are able to contribute."

Gut Level has also asked supporters to help by sharing posts and spreading the word, attending fundraising events, donating a prize to a raffle, or volunteering time to the fundraising committee. Find out how you can help here.

In July last year, Gut Level announced that its venue, Snow Lane, would close by October to be redeveloped into a block of luxury flats.
