SBTRKT announces first album in seven years, ‘The Rat Road’
The new single form the elusive artist, 'Waiting' features a collaboration with Tees Touchdown
SBTRKT has announced his third studio album ‘The Rat Road’, set for release this May.
Revealing the project today, SBTRKT has also released single ‘Waiting’ with Texas-based artist Teezo Touchdown.
This upcoming album is his first in seven years, with his last project ‘SAVE YOURSELF’ having been released in 2016.

Speaking on his new work he says: “This album has been my most sonically ambitious record to create – following my own musical path - which isn’t based on others’ perceptions of what SBTRKT should be.”
SBTRKT explains that the album title ‘The Rat Road’ is a play on the concept of a rat race as he says: “It’s partly based on my own challenging experiences within the music industry and life generally - though I realised the idea is not isolated from a much wider feeling of exhaustion – definitely true here in the UK with little sense of respite from ever increasing costs/ decreasing opportunity / and a bold divide and conquer mentality.
“There is the juxtaposition in the record between determination and hopelessness.”
He found Teezo’s music in October 2021 as a “fan” before connecting with the artist in person.
SBTRKT reflects: “In some ways - although personal to Teezo too - it perfectly vocalised everything I had been going through.

He continues: “It therefore felt like the most obvious song to then lead into my album with. Musically its an expansion on my previous records - with a purposefully wider and more layered sound. All instruments on this song and the album played, recorded, produced and mixed by me.”
Last year the UK artist, whose real name is Aaron Jerome released first new music in nearly six years with the track ‘Bodmin Moor’ which pays tribute to drum ‘n’ bass musican LTJ Bukem.
So far, it has been also been announced that SBTRKT will be playing live at Field Day Festival, London on August 19.
