Rutger Hauer, of 'Blade Runner' fame, has died

After a brief illness, Rutger Hauer has died at the age of 75 while at his home in the Netherlands.

Although Hauer passed on July 19, the news just became public after his funeral was held today. His most prolific role came as the replicant 'Roy Batty' in Ridley Scott's cult 1982 film, 'Blade Runner'.

His first break as an actor happened in the Netherlands during 1969, when famous Dutch director and producer Paul Verhoeven cast him for the title role in his TV series 'Floris'. Being multilingual, handsome, and wildly endearing, Hauer quickly became an international star, who even received an acknowledgement from the Oscars in 1973 for his role in 'Turkish Delight' as an honorable nod to best foreign film.

Other notable performances include a pair of performances in 2005: Cardinal Roark in 'Sin City', as well as the board member antagonist to Wayne Enterprises in 'Batman Begins'.
