UK record label Python Syndicate and Ghanaian streetwear brand Free The Youth have collaborated to bring out a compilation record and capsule collection.

Both will be entitled ‘Free Borga’, a reference to the specifically Ghanaian genre Borga Highlife, which emerged as a way for Ghanaian musicians to reaffirm their identity after relocating to Europe and the USA.

The compilation ‘Free Borga - Heaven’s Gate No Bribe’, out on October 30, features contributions from Hagan (pictured), KG, DJ Blaq pages and more. It’s a celebration of the intertwining of genres like highlife, Afrobeat and UK Funky. Nigerian musician Dapo Tuburna’s track ‘Black Girl Magic’ is dedicated to Breonna Taylor and Black women around the world.

Free The Youth’s accompanying capsule collection is inspired by the messages commonly painted on taxis and tro tros in Ghana.
