A new electronic music museum is opening in Amsterdam

A brand new museum, Our House, is heading to Amsterdam this month.

The museum space will exhibit the history of electronic music through six exhibition spaces and 15 installations, set to open on October 29 this year.

Taking up space in the heart of Amsterdam on Amstelstraat, Our House is located on the same site as former house music club iT, one of the earliest dance music clubs in the city.

Dubbing itself as “a modern museum of electronic music culture”, Our House’s website reads: “Here at Our House, you are invited to express your pivotal memory with thousands of like-minded people and to share the mutual love for the sound that speaks to our hearts.”

Each exhibition will document the "evolution of dance music" while taking visitors through a series of installations to experience the feeling of the early thuds of electronic music.

The museum’s co-founder, Jeroen Jansen, said that “together with more than 150 international artists, promoters, creatives, producers, curators, operators and DJs, we have worked for the last two years on the realisation of the collection.”

Iconic drum machines such as Roland’s TR-808, TR-909, and the TB-303 can be experimented with, as well as interactive vinyl players. The museum will also feature photo galleries, documentaries, flyers, and a suggestion of what’s to come in the future of dance music.

The final part of the museum “is one final salute to a culture and people, that have changed everything”, according to the Our House website.

This ‘grand finale’ exhibition, named The Culture Ride, is a "4D experience" with contributions from artists such as Carl Cox, Charlotte de Witte, Armin van Buuren, and Frankie Knuckles.
