Watch Netflix's Fyre Festival documentary trailer
The full-length film is out next week
Back in April 2017, the Fyre Festival saga unfolded when the luxury festival - which promised yachts, private islands and a musical line-up that originally boasted Major Lazer, Disclosure, and Kaytranada - was uncovered as a fraud, leaving hundreds of attendees stranded with nothing but cheese sandwiches.
From festival founder Billy MacFarland's sketchy history with money-scheme ideas to an endless wave of lawsuits and fraud charges, the story behind seemingly one of the most outrageous festival failures of all time was a perfect subject for a new documentary series, which is set to finally release on January 18 on Netflix.
Different from the previously announced docuseries set to release on Hulu later this year, Netflix's Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened outlines the story of the festival "as told by the organizers themselves", according to the description.
The documentary is directed by Chris Smith, who created the Emmy Award nominated Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond.
