Mr Whompy, Bristol's ‘rave ice cream van’ is up for sale

The owner of Bristol’s rave ice cream van, Mr Whompy, has put the iconic DJ booth up for sale in the hunt for a new owner.

The stage has served festivals and events in and outside of Bristol for the past decade, bringing ‘Mr Whompy DJs’ and acts including Eats Everything to the restored ice cream truck through the years.

Mr Whompy’s co-founder Stuart Wilkinson first purchased the van from an ice cream vendor in Wolverhampton alongside DJs Sam Ford and Neil Ratcliffe in 2013, according to Bristol Post, and revamped it into a small stage featuring strobe lighting and smoke machines.

Speaking to Bristol Post, Wilkinson said: “I can't really put into words how much fun it's been, but we're all getting a bit older and have different priorities.

“I've just had a baby. I think it's time to take it to the next level, someone else that can give it the same passion and attention that we did for the past ten years.”

Mr Whompy has become a staple at festivals including Boomtown, Stokes Croft Block Party, Upfest, and Bristol venues including The Full Moon throughout the years, powered by a Void and Pioneer soundsystem.

When the van was first unveiled to the public, Wilkinson said that its aim was to “provide entertainment” and “put a smile on people’s faces” as it toured the streets of Bristol.

Wilkinson is now asking those interested in purchasing Mr Whompy to get in touch via email. “It's a great opportunity for someone or a group of people. It's completely unique,” he said.

“Unless you created something yourself, this is an opportunity for a readymade thing that can make money. You can do weddings and corporate events to balance it out and generally have a bit of fun. If you're a DJ it's even better because you get to DJ on it.”
