Long-running mix database MixesDB to permanently shut down this month

Popular mix database MixesDB is set to cease operating at the end of the month.

The user-generated mix index has operated for almost 20 years, launched in 2006 as a tool to catalogue DJ mixes, radio shows, podcasts, and other mixes, often including detailed tracklists.

The mixes are uploaded by “music lovers from all over the world,” with a slogan reading: 'We care about correctness because most do not'.

The platform has documented huge numbers of legendary sets, from now-closed venues such as Plastic People, The Haçienda, and Shelter, with a treasure trove of mixes and history that could be lost forever as the website shuts down.

The reasons for the database’s closure are detailed on the website, explaining: “The website code is completely outdated and cannot be run on modern servers anymore."

"To make it short: The code ran into a dead corner and is not update-able anymore without months of enormous coding effort. And since ads went towards zero months ago and donation models failed years ago, I decided it's better to shut it down now than later.”

It continued: “I know many of us have put weeks of effort into this database, but this is where we stand. Download or copy everything you need before June 29th!”
