Legendary Ibiza DJ Alfredo has died

Legendary DJ Alfredo Fiorito has died aged 71.

In 2021 it was reported he had suffered a stroke, with multiple fundraisers launched to support his living costs and private medical expenses in recent years.

He has now sadly passed away, with Amnesia Ibiza, the club where he helped to popularise dance music on the White Isle, confirming the news.

The club paid tribute on Instagram, writing: “Dear Alfredo, Thank you for the nights and beats we shared together. Your music and vision shaped the sound of Balearic Beat and the soul of Amnesia. So many memories were made through your energy, your legacy will live on our dancefloor forever. You will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Alfredo.”

After emigrating to Ibiza in 1976, the Argentinian DJ played many seminal sets, with an eclectic style that influenced the Balearic beat movement and helped the island on its way to becoming a dance music paradise.

He first played at Amnesia in 1983, and in 1987 he famously inspired Danny Rampling, Paul Oakenfold, and Nicky Holloway who saw him playing, taking that impact back to the UK with club nights such as Shoom.

A number of fellow dance music legends have paid tribute to his impact online, including Carl Cox, Sister Bliss, Dave Pearce and Rowetta. Read some below.
