Kanye West gifts $10 million to art foundation
Kanye West is helping to fund James Turrell's dazzling Roden Crater Project
Kanye West is in a giving mood right now. Shortly after giving his wife Kim Kardashian a $14 million apartment for Christmas, the rapper is donating $10 million to the Turrell Art Foundation to help fund the Roden Crater Project: a dazzling light installation by artist James Turrell located inside a 400,000-year-old, 3-mile-wide volcano crater in Arizona.
Kanye West visited the installation last month on an art pilgrimage and later tweeted: “Went to visit the James Turrell crater two days ago. This is life changing. We all will live in Turrell spaces”.
He returned for a second visit the following week.

James Turrell has been working on installation for more than 40 years, carving tunnels into the vast crater to transform it into an open-air observatory that changes hues depending on time and weather conditions. The completed project will house 21 viewing spaces joined by six tunnels.
