James K, aka Jamie Krasner, clearly puts a lot of thought into her musical processes. Each of these strange, shifting electronic songs makes that clear: they unfold not according to classic song structures but to their own rules, like each one is the working-out of a problem or idea.

Sometimes they’re intriguingly impossible to decode; sometimes they’re an elegantly-formed process that needs no explanation or spelling out; and just occasionally they let you in, giving the uncanny, even voyeuristic sense of being inside someone else’s mind. It’s a very peculiar but compelling and oddly soulful album, and you’ll find yourself coming back to try and puzzle out Krasner and her methods.
