Idris Elba will release a mixtape next month
‘The YARDIE Mixtape’ is inspired by his directorial debut, 'YARDIE'
Firm Mixmag favourite Idris Elba will put out a mixtape next month.
‘The YARDIE Mixtape’ is inspired by his directorial debut ‘YARDIE’ and will feature tracks from the likes of Toddla T, Zed Bias, Breakage and Barbados-born reggae legend Dennis Bovell.
The first track released off the mixtape is Newham General’s high-octane 'King Fox' which you can check out below.
Speaking on the project, Elba explains, “Making a film as director allowed me, for the first time, to influence the music, in this case reggae. I had the best seat in the house, music and film. So this mixtape is the aftershock of YARDIE, a collection of tunes that extends my love affair with the film. It was a true collaboration and everyone on the tape could relate to YARDIE.”
‘Idris Elba Presents: The YARDIE Mixtape’ will be released June 21 via 7Wallace.
