Houghton Festival announces collaboration with visual artist Weirdcore
The artist's work will feature alongside Soundscape spatial audio system for the updated Warehouse stage
Houghton Festival has announced a new collaboration with visual artist Weirdcore.
The commission comes as part of Houghton’s extended partnership with sound technology company d&b audiotechnik at The Warehouse Stage.
Houghton festival is a four-night celebration of music, arts and culture with a 24 hour licence at the esteemed Houghton Hall - a beautiful neoclassical mansion in Norfolk - set to take place from August 10 to 13.
The Warehouse stage promises a unique audio-visual experience that uses the d&b audiotechnik spatial audio system used throughout the festival to fully immerse the audience in the performances. d&b’s impressive audio technology has been used bu the likes of Groove Armada and Kraftwerk, and is currently being used by Björk on her groundbreaking Cornucopia tour.
Weirdcore is an experimental designer and audio-visual artist who has collaborated with a roster of the most innovative artists of this generation, including working with Arca in 2021 and 2020, a Pac-Man inspired animated music video for Yaeji and DiAN’s 2021 track PAC-TIVE, and most recently creating the artwork for Aphex Twin’s latest EP ‘ Blackbox Life Recorder 21f / In a Room7 F760’, among other mind-melting work with AFX.
Speaking about his cerebral work for the festival, the artist has said “This piece will be like a mirror into a fragmented, fractal version of the room the audience will be in at that time. It will feel like the room extends further into the screen.”
He continues: “The lights in both the real room and the mirrored room will be animated to the music, so in combination with the fractalised extended room, the experience will feel like something between a Weirdcore version of 'through the looking-glass' and the 1982 supernatural horror movie Poltergeist.”
Alongside this, Houghton also revealed the line-up of talent set to perform at The Warehouse stage this year, with names such as DeepChord, DJ Nobu and object blue.
