Ghetts sentenced to 12 years in prison following fatal hit-and-run

Ghetts has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a fatal hit-and-run last year.

The 41-year-old musician, real name Justin Clarke-Samuel, previously pleaded guilty to death by dangerous driving in connection with an incident in Ilford, North London, on October 18, 2025.

During his sentencing, the court heard Clarke-Samuel had been driving at 74 MPH in a 30 MPH zone when his BMW M5 collided with 20-year-old Nepalese student Yubin Tamang, leaving him with "catastrophic injuries".

In a letter written by Clarke-Samuel which was read aloud in court, he said: "I write from a place of extreme regret, shame and remorse… I cannot express the enormous feeling of guilt and shame for the suffering I have caused. I want Mr Tamang's family to know that I am so truly sorry. I offer no excuses, and I have let my family and community down."

Prosecutor Philip McGhee said Clarke-Samuel was "one-and-a-half times" over the legal drinking limit, initially telling investigators that he had consumed "three glasses of brandy with a meal at a restaurant" before driving.

CCTV footage revealed that Clarke-Samuel had "repeatedly" swerved on the wrong side of the road, also colliding with a Mercedes and a motorcyclist on the same evening he hit Tamang.

“Justin Clarke-Samuel knew he was in no fit state to drive and there was clear evidence of his excessive speed and disregard for road users as he drove incredibly dangerously across our city," the Crown Prosecution Service's Shani Taggart said in a statement following the sentencing.

“Today's sentence will see Clarke-Samuel face the consequences of his fatal decision to get behind the wheel of a car after drinking," she continues. “Our thoughts remain with Yubin Tamang's family today as they grieve the loss of their only child, and with his loved ones who have to navigate a life without him.”

Clarke-Samuel has also been disqualified from driving for 17 years.
