New electronic music exhibition opens in Düsseldorf, Germany

A new exhibition at the Kunstpalast museum in Düsseldorf has opened exploring the history of electronic music.

Electro: From Kraftwerk To Techno is the first major music exhibition to be presented by Kunstpalast and will show the journey of the electronic scene from the 70s to the modern day.

Deep diving into the iconic sounds of Kraftwerk, Detroit techno, Chicago house, hip hop and '90s rave culture it includes more than 500 exhibits.

The items on show range from instruments, custom-made sound generators, films, photography, graphic design and audio clips from artists such as Daft Punk, Laurent Garnier, Jean-Michel Jarre and plenty more.

One of the stand-out pieces is a staging of Kraftwerk’s multimedia performances.

This project has been created in partnership with Kraftwerk’s very own Ralf Hütter.

“This is not an exhibition about music,” explains curator Jean-Yves Leloup, “but rather a musical exhibition that aims to explore the interconnections between electronic music and visual artistic production, such as graphic design, digital art, photography, performance and video.

"We’re offering visitors an immersive experience reminiscent of the atmosphere of euphoria and communality associated with clubs, raves and festivals.”

Jean-Yves Leloup previously curated Electronic - an exhibition by the Philharmonie de Paris' Musée de la Musique (Museum of Music) - which was adapted for the electronic-focused exhibition at London's Design Museum, Electronic: From Kraftwerk to The Chemical Brothers.
