Disclosure are releasing new album 'Alchemy' this week

Disclosure have just announced they will release a new album titled ‘Alchemy’ this Friday, July 14.

The 11-track release, which is coming out through Apollo Records via AWAL Recordings, is described as a “back to basics” approach from the sibling duo.

There are no guest features or samples, with the album created solely from Guy and Howard Lawrence’s original production. Albeit with the brothers in very different places at the time of writing — Guy newly married and settling his life in Los Angeles and Howard weary from heartbreak and a draining 150-date tour.

Speaking about the album and its title, Howard says: “There was this combination of deep heartbreak and sadness, but also deep admiration and appreciation. Let’s turn this horrible feeling into something beautiful. The whole idea was to channel pain into beauty – which, in hindsight, is always the aim.”

Speaking about the intimate approach of the record, Guy adds: “All our other albums were written in third person. Before now, very few of our songs were about things that happened to us and our lives.”

Howard provides more of his own vocals and lyrics than ever before, adding to the personal feel of the record, which explores influences spanning summery house to breakneck jungle.

“This record is a celebration of us feeling liberated right now,” says Guy. “We’re no longer signed to a major record label. We’re not going to tour this record. We can do whatever we like and be super creative.”

The artwork, hand-made by textile artist Llinos Owen and based on a photo by George Muncey, also features the brothers for the first time since their debut album ‘Settle’ — which is marking its recent 10 year anniversary with a special edition vinyl release next month.

Disclosure are marking the album release with a free London party tomorrow, July 13, with the location currently unannounced.

They are also throwing an album release party at East London venue The Cause on Friday.
