Defected Records to host fundraiser event for Dr Bob Jones’ cancer treatment

Defected Records is hosting a fundraiser event for veteran DJ and radio host Dr Bob Jones in support of his cancer treatment.

To help the artist pay for medical bills, the label is set to host a night at their headquarters on June 18 with a line-up featuring other Defected favourites including Gilles Peterson, Terry Farley, Danny Rampling, Melvo Baptiste, and head honcho Simon Dunmore.

All funds raised from the event will go toward Bob Jones’ ongoing cancer treatment, with an option to donate straight to the cause. A GoFundMe campaign has also been set up with a goal of collecting £15,000 toward Jones’ treatment.

Dr Bob Jones first landed on the Defected radar after decades of working as a house, soul, funk and jazz selector. A trailblazer and one of the scene’s key players, Jones has played an enormous role in the sound in the 50 years of his career.

Jones’ music career began in the late ‘70s, and later saw him contribute much-celebrated music to the house music scene. Jones has produced for the likes of Al Green and The Temptations, and appeared on Channel 4 and BBC 2 spreading awareness of the genre's Black roots.

Defected’s fundraiser event takes place on Saturday, June 18, from 2:PM until 10:PM at the label’s office space in Shoreditch. Find your tickets here, and check out the full line-up below.
