Deadmau5 opens up about the time he almost boarded an ill-fated flight

In an exclusive interview with H3 Podcast, electronic music icon Joel Zimmerman (aka Deadmau5) opens up about the time he narrowly avoided death after missing an ill-fated flight out of Madrid ten years ago.

Landing in Madrid to catch a connecting flight, Zimmerman reveals that he and his tour manager arrived to his flight’s gate just minutes after they closed the door. The flight turned out to be Spanair JK5002 - a large passenger plane which took off from the runway only to crash seconds later due to mechanical difficulties. Of the 172 souls on board, only 18 survived the tragedy.

Reliving the moment during the interview, Zimmerman says he watched the tragedy unfold from window of the airport. “There were maybe 800 to 1000 people in the airport…. No one made a fucking sound. It was the creepiest shit.”

Deadmau5 has recently released his highly anticipated orchestral album ‘where’s the drop?’. Learn more here.
