Daft Punk fan creates a 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' clock

A programmer has created a Daft Punk themed "word clock," to honour one of the most successful songs by the electronic duo.

Ben Combee, a Daft Punk fan, has created a "word clock" which displays the words being sung in the electronic pair's 2001 track 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger'.

After discovering that the iconic track only has 18 unique words, Combee was inspired to create a one-of-a-kind piece based on the legendary robots' generational dance anthem by the catchy simplicity.

He constructed an art display like a word clock, a gadget capable of playing back the song's soundtrack while perfectly timing the lighting up of the proper lines.

After removing duplicate lyrics, Combee indicated that all of the lyrics could be put into a 12x7 combination matrix.

Then, after each word in the matrix was sung by dance music's famed robots, he designed a sequence of cue points tied to precise timestamps in the song so that each word in the matrix would flash and then darken again.

'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' heavily samples 1979 song ‘Cola Bottle Baby’ by experimental funk artist Edwin Birdsong, bolstering the springy instrumental with a typically robotic Daft Punk lyrics - all while keeping the authentic funk of the original Edwin Birdsong track.

The Daft Punk version was famously sampled by Kanye in his track 'Stronger'.
