Kneecap have accused Coachella of censoring a pro-Palestine message from its livestream of their set.

The Irish rap trio performed on the Sonora Stage at the Californian festival on Friday (April 11), with a livestream available to fans who didn't attend via Coachella's YouTube channel.

During the set, Kneecap's Mo Chara took to the mic to announce to the crowd "Here, if anyone is wondering Margaret Thatcher is still dead," before descending into the chant "Maggie's in a Box" to the tune of KC and the Sunshine Band's 'Give it Up'.

Fan's watching at home claimed that the set had cut out not longer after the chant, though Kneecap clarified on social media that this wasn't the only part of the set that Coachella allegedly removed from the livestream.

Replying to a news story from NME posted on Twitter yesterday (April 13), Kneecap wrote "Not the only thing that was cut - our messaging on the US-backed genocide in Gaza somehow never appeared on screens either."

According to NME, Kneecap had closed their set with chants of "Free Palestine", alongside amending lyrics to include other references to the ongoing genocide in Gaza.

On their Twitter post, the trio added: "Back next Friday Coachella and it’ll be sorted. Grma to everyone who packed out the tent."

Mixmag has contacted representatives for Coachella for comment.
