A new health directive will demand proof of COVID-19 vaccination at indoor bars, wineries, breweries, nightclubs, and lounges in Los Angeles County.

The Los Angeles City Council has enacted new legislation mandating customers of bars, nightclubs, and other indoor events to have proof of vaccination by November 4.

The 11-2 vote states businesses must require proof of vaccination for customers entering various venues.

This mandate is one of the strictest in the entire United States, according to The Independent.

COVID-19 infections have decreased in Los Angeles County, where 61% of citizens have been vaccinated, yet the virus continues to kill 14 people per day.

According to Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer, this initiative will require consumers and workers to have at least one vaccination dose by October 7 and to be fully vaccinated by November 4.

Starting October 7, participants and staff at outdoor "mega-events" with more than 10,000 people will be required to provide proof of vaccination or demonstrate that they have recently tested negative for the coronavirus. For indoor events with a capacity of at least 1,000 people, this need already exists.

Businesses who break the ordinance will face fines starting at the end of the month. When the city of over four million people lifts its state of emergency, the ordinance will expire.

Customers can also submit a written exemption stating that they are unable to receive the vaccination due to religious or medical reasons, but they must use outside facilities or give a negative test to enter inside, according to the Los Angeles County legislation.
