Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, have been found guilty of being involved in a wire fraud scheme at a court hearing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

The rapper and his 62-year-old mother were convicted on Friday, March 28. A jury found both Turner and Sean Kingston, real name Kisean Anderson, guilty on all five charges.

According to prosecutors, Anderson and Turner defrauded businesses of goods such as luxury vehicles and jewellery totalling over $1 million by claiming that they had paid with the use of fake documents.

The jury heard that Anderson and Turner would then keep possessions after fraudulently obtaining them, which included a $160,000 Cadillac Escalade, and $480,000 worth of jewellery.

Prosecutors also said that the pair obtained over $1 million in property through the fraudulent scheme, TMZ reports. Both defendants were arrested in May 2024 after Anderson’s Florida home was raided.

At the time of their arrests, Anderson was alleged to have fraudulently acquired $111,000 worth of goods for his home, which included a 232-inch TV and soundsystem.

The judge called his mother the “fixer” in the scheme, while Anderson’s defence claimed that he was clueless about his finances, describing him as a "child". He did not testify during the trial.

Anderson reportedly cried as the verdict was read, asking the court to “protect” his mother when she was taken into custody. Her lawyer said that they will appeal the verdict.

Anderson and Turner are now awaiting sentencing, which will take place in July. They could each face a maximum of 20 years in prison on each count.
