Boris Johnson confirms all restrictions will be lifted on July 19

All COVID restrictions currently in place in England will be removed on July 19, Boris Johnson confirmed in a press conference on Monday.

Nightclubs will be allowed to open for the first time since March 2020 and all capacity limits will be removed for large scale events, festivals and hospitality venues.

There will no longer be a legal basis for social distancing from Monday or any limit to how many people can meet indoors.

Though Johnson asked nightclubs to ensure that attendees have a "COVID status certification" - using the NHS app to prove they are either fully vaccinated, have had a negative test result or have recently recovered from COVID-19.

The Prime Minister urging this was required "as a matter of social responsibility" but not a legal requirement.

The need to self-isolate if you are alerted by the NHS app will stay in place until at least August 16, when it will be removed for under 18's and fully vaccinated people. Though a positive test still requires isolation.
