​Aphex Twin unveils first Weirdcore collaboration in five years

Aphex Twin has shared a brand new video for ‘Blackbox Life Recorder 21f’ directed by long-running collaborator Weirdcore.

It comes after the release of his first solo EP in some five years, ‘Blackbox Life Recorder 21f / In a Room7 F760’, which landed last week, July 28.

The link-up also marks the pair’s first since 2018, their last collaboration being the music video for ‘T69 Collapse’ directed and produced by Weirdcore.

The new video premiered on Monday, July 31, featuring the usual trippy visuals that fans have come to expect from a Weirdcore-directed video.

AFX dedicated the release to his late parents, both of whom passed away in recent years. “Dedicated to Lorna James and Derek James” reads a note at the end of the video.

Last week, an anonymous SoundCloud account widely thought to be Aphex Twin released two never-heard-before tracks.

‘Short Forgotten Produk Trk Omc’ and ‘2nd Neotek Test Trac Omc’ were both produced between 2006 and 2007 according to user18081971, released consecutively on Thursday, July 27.

Earlier in July, Houghton Festival announced a new collaboration with visual artist Weirdcore. The commission comes as part of Houghton’s extended partnership with sound technology company d&b audiotechnik at The Warehouse Stage.

Speaking about his cerebral work for the festival, the artist has said “This piece will be like a mirror into a fragmented, fractal version of the room the audience will be in at that time. It will feel like the room extends further into the screen.”
