Aphex Twin releases surprise 38-track compilation ‘Music From The Merch Desk (2016-2023)’

Today, December 17, Aphex Twin has released a surprise 38-track compilation ‘Music From The Merch Desk (2016-2023)’.

Released via Warp Records today (December 17), the expansive project collates the tracks from one-off vinyl releases that were sold at Aphex Twin, AKA Richard D. James’s live shows between 2016 and 2023.

It will see a full digital release of the tracks, which have until now been vinyl only. Having previously been limited to a handful of records per show, many of them have become hugely in demand.

Mint copies of 'London 19.08.2023’, for example, are listed on vinyl listings and exchange platform Discogs for anywhere between £170 (€205) and £1,240 (€1,500).

The release follows James’s reissue of his seminal 1994 album ‘Selected Ambient Works Volume II’ in October to celebrate its 30th anniversary, which featured an expanded edition that was available in five formats and included a digital release of the much-loved track ‘#19’ and the previously unreleased ‘th1 [evnslower]’.

It was accompanied by a free listening party at London’s Tate Modern, with hopeful attendees reporting that the tickets were allocated in less than a minute.
