​10-year-old DJ warms up for Judge Jules in Wales

Efan, a 10-year-old DJ from Llanllechid in North Wales, secured his “dream” over the weekend by warming up for legendary DJ and producer Judge Jules.

Under the alias Efan Electro, the fledgling DJ performed ahead of Judge Jules’ headline performance on Friday, December 13, at 600-capacity venue Neuadd Ogwen in Bethesda, North Wales.

The show marked Efan’s biggest performance yet, following recent gigs at Eagles Meadow Shopping Center in Wrexham, local pubs, and his own school discos.

Efan, who has been learning to DJ for the past two years, told the BBC: “I got into it all when I was about eight years old. My mum and dad had shown me all this '90s music like Fatboy Slim and Faithless.”

"I'd seen some people on stage and playing online and I thought: 'that looks really cool and I'd like to give that a go'. So for Christmas, I asked for some decks,” he said.

He said that he gets a “happy feeling” when performing in front of people, explaining: “To see everyone else in the crowd happy and dancing, it feels amazing."

Ahead of his performance on Friday, Judge Jules told Efan: “You are certainly the youngest warm up DJ I’ve ever had by some distance.”

Efan also told the BBC that he has “big dreams” of performing at major dance music festivals like Tomorrowland and Glastonbury in the future, and believes he’ll be DJing until he’s 60-years-old.

“One of the [dreams] on my list was to warm up for Judge Jules,” he explained. "I can tick that off the list now."
