Alan Fitzpatrick
Fabric 87
9/10
Recorded in one take, Alan Fitzpatrick’s Fabric mix is a rollercoaster rave made for room two in the early hours. Charlotte de Witte’s eerie and haunting ‘Weltschmerz’ eases us in, and Fitzpatrick’s unreleased Lights Up remix of Drewxhill’s ‘Bullets’ forms the perfect comedown closer. But for the most part, it’s a sweaty journey of ribcage-rattling techno from the genre’s biggest players.
Scuba’s take on Audion’s ‘Mouth To Mouth’ is eyes-shut euphoria, Bjarki’s ‘Windy City’ is a thumper and Mike Dehnert’s ‘Meckwiki’ is dark and bumping. Fitzpatrick himself isn’t afraid to hit hard either: ‘Where’s Haus?’ is a sonic assault, Boxia’s ‘1992’ VIP is unforgiving and Mark Broom’s edit of ‘Eyes Wide Open’ takes it to a whole other level.
