Doctor Jeep ‘Cyber Funk’ (KAIZEN)

Brazilian-American bass specialist Doctor Jeep is back with his first release of 2025 on Madam X’s KAIZEN imprint, kicking off with bass-weighted single ‘Cyber Funk’ in February. This one is loaded with sharp percussion, a deep dive into drum-led, mechanical rhythms that cross into baile funk territory.

Sully 'Model Collapse' (FABRICLIVE)

‘Model Collapse’, Sully’s latest release and debut on fabric’s FABRICLIVE imprint, sees the jungle producer explore more innovative paths of 160, warping and contorting over the course of five minutes. Mind-melting 303s weave in and out of an array of oddball, glitchy synths, while tinny snares and cymbal crashes play out into a cataclysmic finale.

Kiimi & Denham Audio ‘Know Your Name’ (Three Six Zero)

Kiimi and Denham Audio’s new collab release ‘Know Your Name’ is made for those peak-time club moments – a surefire energy provider fusing elements of UKG and classic house. Seductive vocal calls pose questions about the “anonymity of having a one-night stand”, Kiimi explains: “It’s a high-energy, rolling club track that’s still rooted in melody and hooks”.

Djrum ‘Three Foxes Chasing Each Other’ (Houndstooth)

An odyssey in track form, the latest single from Djrum’s upcoming album ‘Under Tangled Silence’ swings wildly from twinkling optimism to rough-edged disconcertion as it builds through its seven minute narrative. In its softer moments, the track pairs dizzying symbols and gleaming bells with buoyant percussion, before plying us with crashing, thrashing drum stabs. If there was ever a track to demonstrate Djrum’s eye watering range, ‘Three Foxes Chasing Each Other’ is it.

aya 'off to the ESSO' (Hyperdub)

As a preview of her witchy forthcoming album on Hyerdub ‘hexed!’, aya dishes out her own demented take on a peak time club heater. ‘off to the ESSO’ combines the skin-crawling, maximalist vocals and off-kilter percussion - heard on the artist’s debut ‘im hole’ - with bouncing bass and riotous breaks. It’s terrifying and electric in equal measure, evoking the feeling of approaching the club when you know you should turn around and go home.

DJ Python ‘Besos Robados’ (XL Recordings)

Having first debuted on DJ Python’s BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix last year, this ambient-meets-reggaeton earworm has rightfully earned the intrigue of dance music fans. So it’s with relief that the US producer has chosen to tease his forthcoming debut on XL Recordings with ‘Besos Robados’. Featuring Honduran singer Isabella Lovestory, this track matches lucious pared-back synths with clicking, crunching percussion to keep us from falling too much into a sense of ease — Lovestory’s vocals dance above the glistening soundscape in both rap and singing form. ‘Besos Robados’ is a track that only DJ Python could create, and we mean that as a compliment.

Sammy Virji ‘I Guess We’re Not The Same’ (Universal Music)

Sammy Virji has a gift for making banger after banger, mixing his signature bassline wobblers with a pop of UKG. And the bass to this track will travel straight to your bones. Already played out in Fout Tet’s set in The Lot Radio, we’re bound to hear it throughout festival season as it's got the essence of summer running through it.

JPEGMAFIA ‘Valentine’s Day Freestyle ‘25’ (PEGGY / AWAL Recordings)

JPEGMAFIA shared a Valentine’s Day gift with us, and it's a tune. Fuelled by R&B and an old skool hip hop vibe, JPEG steps away from his usual glitchy rap style for this one-off single. Sampling the 1992 track ‘I'm So Into You’ by SWV, the song is rich with flavour. Lyrically, the track isn’t as romantic as it might seem. Fuelled with pop culture references, from him smoothing out his alleged beef with Baby Keem to the mention of Grimace, the McDonald’s purple mascot.

3l3d3p ‘>>> (FWD)’ (Self-released)

Don’t be fooled by this track's eerie intro, as you’re in for the ride of your life. After the success of her 2020 single ‘Ibitbt’, 3l3d3p has been turning heads. This new release sees LA-based artist jump back and forth between two very parallel sounds - a hard-hitting 180 BPM to a sudden drop to around the 95 mark. It’s a whirlwind for the ears and chaos to dance to, yet so very addictive.

Avalon Emerson ‘Don't Be Seen With Me’ (Dead Oceans)

For her first single as part of a series called ‘Perpetual Emotion Machine’ on newly minted label Dead Oceans, Avalon Emerson covers British new wave duo Oppenheimer Analysis’ cult track ‘Don’t Be Seen With Me’. “These songs were created for my DJ sets. Whether they’re entirely original, edits to recontextualize old favorites, instrumental, or feature me singing, they are all part of my perpetual emotion machine,” she explains of the concept. This first taste beefs up and brightens the bubbly energy of the original, with Emerson’s stronger vocals and emphasis on the squirrely synths.

Jim Legxacy ‘father’ (XL Recordings)

Taken from an upcoming project on XL called ‘black british music (2025)’, Jim Legxacy’s new single ‘father’ is a musically upbeat and lyrically personal exploration of the South East London rapper’s younger years, recontextualising a sample from George Smallwood’s funk track ‘I Love My Father’.
