BFTT ‘Rezalamass’ (TT)
If this club-ready foray into bass and pop is anything to go by, Manchester-based producer BFTT’s upcoming album ‘Redefines’ will be seeping into club sets all summer long. Bursting drum sequences wrap elegantly around a central sample from The Cardigan’s ‘Lovefool’, flitting between experimental bleeps and bloops and shiny synths, ‘Rezalamass’ grows steadily from fractured pitches to an all-out, hearty crowd pleaser. An exciting combination of forward-thinking broken beats and euphoric floorfiller.

Arca ‘Cayó’ (XL Recordings)
As close to ballad territory as you’ll find the Venezuelan ‘KiCK’ producer — ‘Cayó’ is an atmospheric journey into the artist's own sense of self. Foreboding synths are layered over morose vocals, bound together by a hard-hitting, immobilising bassline. Arca herself has described the track as a “sensual embodiment of self” — a delicate track that reminds us all of her massive range as an artist.

LSDXOXO ‘DRaiN’ (XL Recordings)
It's difficult to understand why the combination of good old fashioned 00’s emo pop and rolling drum ‘n’ bass isn’t something many have tried before. LSDXOXO deviates from his distinct horny techno sound into angst territory — sampling Samantha Ronson’s ‘Built This Way’ (famous for its deployment in the Mean Girls soundtrack), the track features a steady, compelling bassline as the US producer croons over the beat: “Because you drain me of my energy / Then you don’t return my calls”. The hard dance to teen pop pivot we never knew we needed.
